Prior to the final Director’s Cut event of the year, GWW talked to Aberdeen’s Professor Alan Marcus and his guest David Law, Professor of Christian Thought and Philosophical Theology at the University of Manchester, about the role and meaning of Christmas in popular cinema. In a wide-ranging discussion, they considered the relationship between capitalism and Christmas, the ideological work performed by Christmas classics such as It’s A Wonderful Life, the influence of Charles Dickens on cinema’s Christmas tales, and angelology.
